Inspired by Rip and Alison’s trip to Thailand in partnership with non profit Veterinarians International, this sculpture captures the beautiful relationship between mother and baby. Elephants have deep, complex relationships with each other. Reflected in this bronze is a reminder that the relationships found in the animal kingdom are not so different from our own as humans.
Trunks of Hope is the mother and baby portion of the piece Guardians of Hope, which RIp and Alison donated to Veterinarians International’s One Health benefit auction in August, 2019. Guardians of Hope depicts a mother, baby and ”auntie” together, and was a one-of-a-kind piece. The story behind Guardians of Hope is that when a female elephant is pregnant, she will assign an “auntie” role to another female in the herd, and they will have a lifelong connection. Guardians of Hope celebrated the bond between mother, “auntie” and baby, and Trunks of Hope highlights the love between mother and baby.
